The Royal Family Connections with Kent

There are many historic and continuing close associations between the Royal Family and Kent:

• Here The Duke of Kent receives the Spirit of Kent Award from the former Lord Lieutenant.




• The Queen Mother, so affectionately remembered in our County as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports…



• There are many Royal patronages of Kent-based organisations, continuing with younger members of the Royal Family, for example The Earl and Countess of Wessex taking on patronage of The Royal School for Deaf Children at Margate.



• And over the past 10 years alone there have been some 200 Royal visits to separate organisations throughout Kent, providing real benefit to the organisations concerned and celebrating their achievements.
• Each year The Queen and other members of the Royal Family undertake more than 2,000 official engagements in the UK and overseas.
• They entertain around 70,000 people at official receptions, garden parties and other events at the royal palaces.
• And receive and respond to 100,000 letters a year.
• Yet, during the past 10 years the publicly-funded costs of the monarchy had reduced by almost 60 per cent.
• In fact the total annual cost of the Monarchy represents the equivalent of the price of one loaf of bread per person.
